SON OF ENCOURAGEMENT.
“When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.” Acts 9:25-28
I once read that the gift of saint barnabas to our faith was that he always chose to see the best in people. had it not been for barnabas, saul[paul] may never have been accepted by the church as a legitimate convert. i find myself comfortably aligning with the message of barnabas’ life. too often we seek to be pauls, yet we forget the legions of saints, many unnamed, that it took to support and fulfill his ministry. may we always be so humble as to keep God’s intentions ahead of our own ego in this way.
